The Rt Revd Esther Prior is the Bishop of Aston in the Diocese of Birmingham, bringing over two decades of ministry experience shaped by a deep commitment to mission, discipleship, leadership development and the flourishing of local churches. Originally from Zimbabwe, she trained at Trinity College Bristol, where her passion for developing resilient and biblically grounded leaders was nurtured. She now has the privilege of serving as Chair of Trinity College Bristol, supporting the next generation of Christian ministers as they prepare for ministry in a rapidly changing world.
Across her ministry, she has been dedicated to helping churches grow in confidence, clarity, and Christ-centred purpose. Her teaching and preaching often explore themes of invitation into Christian community, discipleship rooted in Scripture and hope in Christ’s renewing work. She regularly contributes to leadership development, and conversations about forming healthy, mission-shaped communities.
She is married to Matt, also ordained, and together they have two children who keep them grounded, joyful, and continually learning. Whether preaching, teaching, or accompanying leaders, she seeks to encourage the church to trust in the faithfulness of God and live out the good news with courage and grace.
In Christ and with the Spirit explores the heart of Christian leadership and discipleship through Scripture and lived faith. In the first session, Bishop Esther invites participants to reflect on what it means to abide in Christ, drawing on John’s Gospel and the “Big Five” moments of Jesus’ birth, life, death, resurrection, and ascension, and considering how these shape identity, calling, and ministry today. The second session turns to the practice of leadership, focusing on leading in the power of the Holy Spirit — attentive to God’s presence, rooted in prayer, and open to renewal for faithful witness in a changing world.
